Recycling

Why Do We Recycle?
We recycle to reduce the amount of waste that ends up at landfill. We should re-use where possible those items that when buried in a landfill will be wasted forever.
The majority of manufactured items are produced from an organic source, recycling this material will enable raw products such as trees, oil, ore, iron, bauxites, sand plus many other smaller parts/trace elements not to be used to exhaustion.

What Can We Recycle?
Many things can be Recycled, Recovered or Re-used. The main materials are:

  • · Paper which is turned back into paper for the newspaper industry
  • · Cardboard is turned back into cardboard
  • · Steel Cans are melted down and can be remolded back into steel cans
  • · Aluminum Cans are melted down and can be processed back into Aluminum products
  • · Plastics can be re-processed to manufacture many things from plastic bottles, clothes, toys, car and aeroplane parts etc.,

Where does it go?
CWM Environmental has a Materials Recovery Facility at Nantycaws, Carmarthen. CWM Environmental currently recycle products collected via the kerbside blue bag scheme by Carmarthenshire County Council along with Trade Recycling which is either delivered directly or forms part of the Trade Recycling Collection Services that are provided by our Company.

Other materials are collected and transported from the Household Waste Recycling Centre’s that we manage in the County as well as materials delivered from Bring Sites that are spread throughout the County to provide the public with local facilities to dispose of their recyclable items.

All of the recyclable products bought into the Materials Recovery Facility are recycled. It is only items that should not be in the kerbside collections that end up in the landfill or used as Refuse Derived fuel (RDF).
