Landfill Gas
Buried biodegradable organic waste (such as food and paper) decomposes by anaerobic microbial action which produces landfill gas. The gas generated at the Nantycaws Site is drawn off and converted to energy. An active gas management system operates at the site. Landfill gas is passively vented to the surface through a series of gas vents and a perimeter gas collector and then pumped to an onsite Waste to Energy Plant. The current system will be extended as the landfill continues to develop.
