Why - What - Where - When
WHY do we recycle? – we recycle to reduce waste going to
landfill, to reuse in one form or another items that if they were landfilled
would be wasted for ever. Most things that we recycled are organic, if we were
to reuse by recycling, the raw products from which they are made would last
longer i.e. trees, oil, ore, iron, bauxites and sand plus many other smaller
parts/trace elements.
The world is not getting any larger we could run out of space – then what.
WHAT can we recycle? – Many things can be recycled/reused. The main ones
are paper which is turned back into paper for the newspaper industry – cardboard
is turned back into cardboard – steel cans melted down and remoulded
back into steel cans – Aluminium cans are melted down an processed back
into Aluminium – Glass is reground and used in the building industry
it can be used in road making, golf courses, glass making again and plastics
can be made into many things from cloths, toys, cars and aeroplane parts, bottles
etc
WHERE can we take it? – Carmarthenshire Recycling Company
Ltd has a Materials Recycling Facility in Johnstown, Carmarthen we currently
recycle products collected
by both Carmarthenshire County Council and Pembrokeshire County Council and
we also have on site bring banks for public use.
Pembrokeshire County Council brings in their paper, plastics and cans – these
items come into our site via the kerbside orange bag collections.
Carmarthenshire County Council brings in their paper, plastics and cans –
these items come into site via the kerbside blue boxes and Pink/Blue bag
collections. They also bring in their cardboard from trade collections.
We also take in the bring banks that are doted around the counties and also from the local Civic Amenity Sites
Other recyclables collected on the Civic Amenity Sites are taken straight to the processors or if they are hazardous to the processor who can deal with these in a correct and safe manner.
About 92% of the products bought into the MRF get recycled only the contamination
or items that should not be in the kerbside collection end up in the landfill.
WHEN can we recycle? – All our Civic Amenity Sites are
open 363 days of the year and the bring sites are 24hour 365 days per year
