Small or shredded paper cannot be removed efficiently from the picking line, if it is included in the blue bag make sure in is placed in a carrier bag for ease of segregation. Please leave non confidential sheets of paper whole. |

Cardboard Boxes |

Flat pack to reduce bulkiness |

This called 'scamboard' and is mixed with superior quality cardboard for recycling |

Plastic Bottles, Yoghurt Cartons etc., |

We send clean 'mixed' plastic to our reprocessing manufacturers. Make sure that all plastics are rinsed clean. |

Glass causes health and safety issues on our picking line. |

Cans |
Yes |
Steel cans should be rinsed clean; the labels do not have to be removed due to the smelting processes during recycling. Aluminium cans should be emptied and rinsed clean. Aerosols must be completely empty and must NOT be squashed or pierced |

Polystyrene |

Polysterene is bulked up and processed in a machine at the MRF which condenses it by 40%. It is then sent for recycling into products such as 'decking'. |

These items are difficult to recycle as they are often made up from a mixture of materials. They are also very difficult to segregate in our MRF processes |

The facility is not licenced to receive these items. Small household batteries and other batteries can be taken to the HWRC’s. Small household batteries can also be taken to any Council Customer Service Centre’s. Electrical Items should be taken to HWRC’s to be sorted for reprocessing in line with the WEEE Directive |
