Job description
As the Compost Facilities Manager at CWM Environmental, I play a crucial role in turning everyday green waste into a valuable resource. Based at our Nantycaws site, I oversee the production of compost, making sure everything runs smoothly (and doesn’t smell worse than it has to!). Alongside compost operations, I also look after the wider site facilities, including tanks, drainage systems, roads, and general infrastructure, helping to keep the site safe, functional, and fit for purpose. Working closely with the team, I ensure high operational standards, continuous improvement, and that health, safety, and environmental compliance remain at the heart of everything we do, all while supporting a more sustainable future.
My Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
-
Overseeing the production of compost at the Nantycaws site
-
Managing site facilities including tanks, drainage systems, roads, and general infrastructure
-
Ensuring compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and best practice
-
Monitoring compost quality and process performance
-
Coordinating maintenance, contractors, and site improvements
-
Leading and supporting site staff to maintain high operational standards
-
Driving continuous improvement to support CWM Environmental’s sustainability goals
My Journey to Where I Am Now:
My journey started in hospitality, from pot washing to bartending, before I earned my degree in 2013 while working part-time behind the bar. From there, I moved into management roles, including Store Manager and Production Manager, building strong organisational, leadership, and problem-solving skills along the way. I joined CWM Environmental in 2021 as an HWRC Supervisor, where I developed a strong understanding of site operations before progressing into my current role as Compost Facilities Manager at the Nantycaws site. Outside of work, I’ve always been active and competitive, previously riding in mountain biking events and now competing in motorsport, where I enjoy the organisational challenge of co-driving, which reflects with my approach to planning and teamwork at work.
Key Attributes for Success in My Role:
-
Strong knowledge of composting operations and environmental compliance
-
A practical, hands-on approach to managing facilities and infrastructure
-
Attention to detail, especially when it comes to quality, safety, and regulation
-
Problem-solving skills and the ability to think on my feet when challenges arise
-
Clear communication and the ability to work effectively with teams and contractors
-
A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement
-
Commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice
-
A good sense of humour, because working with compost helps if you can smile about it
What I Love About My Role & Challenges:
No two days are ever the same, there’s always something new to tackle. There arelenty of challenges to overcome, which keeps the role interesting and rewarding. It's a hands-on job where problem-solving is part of everyday life. The satisfaction of keeping a complex site running safely and efficiently is very rewarding to me. Playing a direct part in turning waste into. something genuinely useful makes me proud.
